Flash…Ah-aha…

The animated bits are all done now. Test subjects chortled. I think. That may have been choking noises. Looking forward to getting to play WAR again when I’m done working this week so I can splat smelly Order players and grab more footage.

Stepping back a bit and looking at the project its possible I’ve out-barking’d myself this time. We’ll see.

Bank Holiday Weekend…

An unexpected turn of real life events has halted gameplay for me the last few days and will affect me for a few more to come. The only upside is that I have had visitors. Zero gaming time pretty much. The little time to myself I’ve had I’ve spent working on gluing some of the audio and video together for Maniac Magus as well as some painstaking work on cutting and pasting a few images I need for some gigglesome parts of the vid. I’m reasonably happy with the latest audio mix for the project and am resigned to leaving some of the bits I’m unhappy with as they are. That will become clearer when I’m finished.

An unexpected bonus, I’ve managed to order myself one of these…

EDIT: XBoard 49 is out of stock where I placed the order… so I’ve upgraded it to this:

Woohoo!

Looking forward to when that puppy arrives :)

Lag down?

It might just be possible that the hated lag in WAR is reducing. Going by my own experience over the last couple of nights it definately has, though as a player without any server-side data to crunch its difficult to nail down if its conditional based on number of players in zones or such or some other transient factor.

I read a post that if you reduce your chat log to 120 lines it helps a lot. I did this and it probably has but I don’t have any definitive proof that this made a difference. Regardless, I’ve noticed since returning after my time away that lag seems to have noticably reduced in general. It is still present, sometimes crushingly so in forts, but in oRvR and even in Altdorf when it was fully populated 2 nights ago I was moving around mostly lag free instead of the 10-or-more second delays we used to get. Even the worst Fort lag had eased off from “Nerdrage-making” to merely “Dreadful”.

These are good signs that things are moving in the right direction for WAR on the technical side but there’s still a fair bit to do, especially in the afore-mentioned forts. I’m relatively pleased with what I’ve seen in large scale RvR the last 2 nights from that perspective. The only proviso is that I’ve not seen a particularly huge Order response in T4 to the massed warbands of Destruction on Karak-Norn so my subjective comments may not be entirely accurate. Time will tell.

The current hot potato is the problems with aura twisting from Chosen and Knights of the Blazing Sun as when the lag hits their damage auras seem to go rather mental. Discussion on the various forums is at best described as ‘heated’.

I managed to get a little more video last night, but not a whole heap. This phase of The Project may take longer than I’d hoped. Its all good though as it gives me *even* more excuse to play :D

Yikes!

Its always shocking to hear your own voice recorded, even more so when there is allegedly a tune involved. Anyway, all the music for Maniac Magus is done. Starting on the video editing today. Last week I recorded about 40GB of play time but so far have only dredged up a few seconds of useful material. Happily, since The Project is not about being uber or anything this isn’t too much of a problem.

I must take the time to shout out to Zno, who has been very helpful in showing me a few tricks I would not have sussed and for pointing me at the tools I needed for the job. Examples of what he gets up to can be found at http://www.z-no.org/  - very dark and often minimalist material. I’ve heard some of the stuff he’s working on for an upcoming album and its really very good. An example of his work can also be found (of all places) on YouTube with some excellent audio work he did on a video project http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybEjyGmVub8

Not for the squeamish or those with short attention span.

So.In-game footage needed. I’m still on the lookout for anyone that has video that could help since it will speed up The Project immensely. It has been very hard to sit at the mixer working on this without alternately cracking up laughing and cringing ,which probably means I’m heading in the right direction with this.

Video Killed…

… the Magus.

Ok not true. But I’m now on the lookout for kill shots of my Magus gimp, also anyone that has had the misfortune to try and heal me and also people that play the other side that may have been fraps’ing and have some footage they may have giggled over. I’m also interested in fun fights or encounters in RvR where stuff worked. I’m not interested in any PvE content unless it was RvR-related e.g. lord fights and such. Any kill shots from Order players on our server would also be greatly appreciated.

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and put together a Memoirs of a Maniac Magus vid, but I don’t want to do the usual self-congratulatory thing, I’ve got something slightly different in mind. I think the key word here would be ‘humiliation’.

Also of interest are any derogatory comments and anything else that references my Warhammer freakery as I’ll try to include these quotes.

So, if you’ve got anything appropriate or even wildly inappropriate, message me in game (I’m not back from real life to virtual life until Thursday (14th) of this week coming) or PM me on the various forums.

might as well face it…

I'm more of a metaller really
I’m addicted to mods…

No, no, not that kind – WAR mods – I’ve gone and written another one.

Roleplay Filter

This is a remake of the daoc command /rpfilter – which lets you translate the gibberings of the average loltxtm8spkr into something legibile:

e.g. turn “lol” into “most amusing”

Much room for other comedy such as turning “heal pls” into “Don’t heal me ever I’m an idiot” or “Flim” into “That gimp” (back in daoc for some odd reason I always turned “imo” into “forsooth” – easily amused I guess)
